ついにいってきました、ウェールズ！ウェールズはイギリス西南部に位置するエリアです。自然や昔からの文化が残っている(ウェルシュと呼ばれる言葉も残っており看板は英語との二重表記になっている)ところで知られており、観光地も多くあります。さて、そのウェールズは今世界のMTBトレイルとしてトップクラスに位置づけされているらしいです。友人がバンガローを予約して走りにいくというので、連れて行ってもらいました。
	朝6時にマンチェスターを車で出発して約2時間半でロッジに到着。前日入りしていた仲間と走り始める。気温は5−6度といったところで、冷たく気持ちがいい。珍しく？天気がよく朝日が綺麗だった。朝の霜の降りたちょっと湿ったシングルトレイルは日本と変わらないなと思った。 Leaving Manchester at 6am and after 2.5h ride by car, I got to lodge where my friends stayed from previous night. Pack up my stuff and start riding. Temperture is about 5-6C, it is pleasant to ride. Also it was fine day as morning sunshine was so beautiful. Soon notice riding in morning forest, it is quite similer to ride in sigle track in Japan.
シングルトラックに入る。どこに登っても標高はそんなに高くなく、２００ｍ級の山を上ったり降りたり楽しむ。朝もやにかすむシングルトラック。朝の柔らかな光で地面の水分がもやとなって幻想的な景色を作り出していた。寒いからか、背の高い針葉樹林が多く紅葉はしない。 Entering single track. Which trail you choose, you will not get much altitude. Around 200m-300m up and we go up and down many times. Morning sun shines the ground and makes fog. It is so visionalry. We go thorugh it.
	トレイルはMTB専用に用意されている。シングルトラックへの入り口には分かりやすく標識が立っている。｢mbr｣は大手MTBの雑誌。mbrがスポンサーしているこのコースは中級向け。ちょうど海○シングルトラックに似ている。 Trails are specified for MTBs. Also entrance for the single track is displayed as visibly see. mbr is name of MTB magazine. This mbr corse is for middle class riders alike to one we go ride in Japan.
今回のベストショット。写真クリックで拡大します。各シングルトラックの間は車と共同の道でフラットで登りやすくなっているところが多いです。シングルトラックになっているところは大体下りになるようになっています。楽に登って楽しく下る。 Best shot for this time! This picture tells everything I felt in the trails. Click picture to enlarge. Each single tracks are connected by shared road with cars most of the time and it is usually steap rise, Easy to climb and injoy the descent single tracks. Very well designed.
	シングルトラックを下る。路面は岩を削ったような石が多く、所々わざとらくだのこぶのような変化を石でつけてあります。滑りそうで結構怖いです。 Going down the fun part! Ground surface is covered with sharp rocks and wet. Some intentional ditch like camel back is prepared. A little scared for slipping.
	もう夕焼け…日が短いので3時を過ぎるとすっかり夕方。最後の下りに入る。汗で湿ったからだが寒くなってくる。 It is already the sun set... Getting darck before 4, so we prepare for the last discent!! Also getting cold. Looking for warm shower and food.
	夜は地元のパブで食事と(ちょい飲み)。パブからロッジまでは砂利道ですが、下をちょっとこすりアンダーカバーが外れる。ショベルカーになってました。タイラップでとめる。(今もそのまま、笑) We went to some local pub for dinner and some drinks. Black Sheep (Bitter) was good! On the way back, I scrach under cover of my Passart. Oh well. Thanx to Mark, it was fixed by Tiewrap. Works fine until now. (Still as it is but...)
	日ごろの疲れか10時間も寝てしまった。部屋をシェアした友達もお疲れ気味みたいで10時間寝てた、ｗ よく走って、よく食べて、よく飲んで、よく寝る。幸せです。嫌いだったタイヤを翌日朝に交換した。携帯のノキア製。もともとはゴムメーカーだったんですね。IRCライクで非常に気に入った。よくグリップします。 I and Chay slept for alomst 10 hours! We both must have been tired but ride a lot, eat a lot, drink a lot, sleep a lot, what a bliss! I changed the Tyre from Continental to Nokia. Nokia famed f or mobile but originally they were rubber company. Tyre is excellent as IRC. Very strong grip.
	二日目。ロッジから見て逆側の山を行く。木の枝から不思議な形で伸びたツララを発見。 Day 2. We go for all day ride this time to oposite mountain from yesterdays. Tracy and Pam found a funny shaped ice Crystal from tree branch. .
	左のマークはスポンサーなしの家族向けの楽なツーリングコース。右はシリアス向け。おなじみRed Bullは上級。Karrimorはイギリスの大手のアウトドアブランドで長いテクニカルXCコースです。 Left sign without sponsers is easy corse for family. Right ones are more serious. Well known triple X Red Bull is for experts. Karrimor is britsh outdoor brands and their corse is long technical XC style.
	最高地点で記念撮影。バックの雪をかぶった山が綺麗だった。 Seven worriors at the peak. Actually there was a beautiful mounten coverd with snow behind us :-)
	森から抜けると広大な台地が広がる。Red Bullは短いが富士見で言うとBコースぐらいの難易度であると思う。こちらの人は、リジットでもつるつるのタイヤでもガンガン下っていく。 Huge scape when we came out from forest. Red Bull is short but quite rocking corse. My friends go down with quite worn tyres but fast!
	これが泊まったロッジ。貸し別荘のような感じで一泊18ポンド(4000円弱)。食事は自炊ですが、暖炉を囲んで皆で団欒。なかなか楽しいものです。 Overview of Ferndale. It was very good lodge as to close to MTB field, and fun to spend time cooking and talking around chimney.
